This is just a question which should open the floor for many views and counter views...so lets debate on this topic and see if we can gain some insight into this topic... as we all know Men r from Mars and women r from Venus.

Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus.. but now all are on earth... working together..
i dont think a boss should be judged based on their gender... its the job that makes them a boss.. but in indian society, there is a general apprehension about female leadership, which i feel is orginated from the traditional indian mentality, where women are considered to be only home makers, and men are the bread earners of the family...but in the 21st century we should come out of such bondages.
But in indian offices, i see a lot of instances, where a woman is not cosidered to be a boss. But there are also some examples where a woman herself dont want to be a boss, because she dont want to control others. These 2 factors are making some women a bad boss and the others dont want to work under them..if you see middle east, the things are worser..
by the way, saby, did u get this idea after working in Shell AOSP???
Actually i have seen these things happening in quite a few projects. But in a way u can say that AOSP triggered this thought further.
I don't have any apprehension or reservations about female leaders but i saw many instances of other people not taking this thing in the right spirit.
In a way i will attribute this fact to a lack of proper upbringing. I also feel that many indian males are not comfortable in dealing with a woman professionally and more so with a dominant lady.
All in all it makes work a bit more fun n can contribute to make your day spicy and save u from boredom and take u out from a monotonous grind.
Guys, my experience is…”BOYS DON”T WANT ANY GIRL EXCEPT THEIR MOMs TO TELL THEM WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO DO OR WHAT THEY SHOULD DO”. It is a universal truth and is not only about Indian man or about up bringing.
So for the women to be a successful boss, she should device ways to make men feel that... “They r the one who are willing to do it and it’s not her who is ordering them to do it…”
I believe this will take the women boss long way… (Also it is true in other cases as well..good bosses should have we attitude which make ppl think tht they r not being forced to do anything)
In my openion it cannot be answered as a binary output of Yes/No. Like Saby said, there are quiet a few factors that exist and the interaction of every person with each of these factors is different. If one were to do a survey on 10 parameters of judging the interaction between a Female Boss and a male subordinate, you will face some serious Gage Errors. In six Sigma terms it is calle as Rational Subgrouping based on factors like educational profile of the male, cultural upbringing, nature of the person in general, nature of his interaction with his manager, nature of the manager(dictator vs facilitator),geographical location,age difference, age group of the individuals,organizational policy for females etc etc,.... adding a flavor of Six Sigma to the discussion!!!
Such discussions are "interesting" rather than conclusive...like most disucssions that Indians participate in!!
